Signing day nuggets

There’s not a lot of news to report locally on this – the first day of the spring signing period for college basketball prospects.

But there are a few nuggets from here and there:

  • College of Southern Idaho guard Kevin Galloway did sign his letter-of-intent with the University of Kentucky and I believe coach Billy Gillispie will be talking about his newest Wildcat tomorrow morning.
  • University Heights’ Scotty Hopson has not signed with Tennessee. But don’t fret, he’s still headed to Knoxville. He’s playing in the Jordan Brand Classic this week and a scheduling conflict kept him from having a signing ceremony before he left for the game.
  • In what comes as no shocker, Tyreke Evans did pick Memphis. The Aston (Pa.) American Christian high-scoring guard had been rumored to be headed to the Tigers’ program for months and made it official on a nationally-televised news conference.
  • The players for the Kentucky Derby Festival Classic game head into town tomorrow and I will be at the first practice with a full report on Ater Majok, Paul McCoy and Maurice Sutton and the U of L and UK signees.
  • Western Kentucky has lost two of the three signees that former coach Darin Horn signed in November. Ronald Nored was released and has committed to Butler, while Bryan Narcisse has also been released and has committed to Clemson.
  • Miami Dade College center Steve Toyloy, who at one point had been listing Kentucky as a potential school, signed with Cincinnati.
  • In a football-related item, Bullitt East wide receiver Nate Hanson has signed to play at Centre College. He had 31 catches for 456 yards and three TDs as a senior.
